CYCLING AUCKLAND CENTRE'S RACE FASTEST TIME TO DWIGHT Under most strenuous racing conditions, the Auckland Amateur Cycling Centre conducted its third open road race of tho season on Saturday. Tho course of 40 miles was from Western Springs to Kiimeil. via the Swanson Tunnel Hill, and back through Brigham's Creek and along the Lincoln highway to tho Western Springs. Heavy rain at Kumeu had made the loose metalled roads treacherous and punctures and falls compelled many to retire. Fifty-nine riders competed, and 41 finished. Tho Manukau, Auckland, l'apatoetoe, Takapuno and Lynndalo Clubs weio represented in the clubs' team challenge shield competition, which was run in conjunction with the event. The scratch men were L. H. Dwight and <T. R. Hall, of tho Manukau Club, and A. G. Patrick, of the Auckland Club. They gave the four limit men a start of 23 miuutes.

Speight, 23m, and W. R. Walker, ISm, who rode brilliantly on tho outward run. E. ,T. Moffitt, who ultimately finished second, and D. W. Lawson, passed 3m -17s after the leader, while tho winner, J. Leather, and J. C. Dolores went through 4m 52° afterwards. A big bunch, with E I). Andrews, E. P. Raper, 8. E. Pinfold and R. Arvidson, sll off 'lin, prominent, turned 8m '2s after tho lender. Two of the scratch men, L. IT. Dwight and A. G. Patrick. went past 11m 22s after Iho lender. J. R. Hall, the other scratch rider; turned later, having been dropped on Iho Swanson Tunnel Ilill. To this point tho scratch riders were tho fastest in 59tn 255, and had tho old course record within their reach. The field thinned out on (he homo run and the first riders to rejoin tho outward route at Henderson wero Moffitt and Lawson, with Leather and Dolores 200 yards behind. Hard riding enabled the latter pair to overhaul Moffitt and Lawson only a mile from the finish. Leather led out, in tho final sprint to cross the line a length ahead of Moffitt, with Dolores half-a-length and Lawson two lengths further back. 'The scratch men had u close sprint for time honours, which Dwight won by half a wheel from Patrick. Dwight finished 5m 25s after the winner. Tho successful riders were:—J.
