ACTIVITIES OF ORDERS
OFFICERS INSTALLED SOCIAL FUNCTIONS HELD The Youthful Enterprise Temple No. 36, 1.0. G.T., met on Thursday evening, a good attendance being presided over by the C.T., Sister C. McCarthy. Two more members were initiated, making an addition of 30 to the roll during the present quarter. The temple has accepted a challenge from Roskill Juveniles to play basketball and football, teams having been .chosen to try conclusions at an early date.
The Loyal Dominion Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., held its half-yearly installation of officers last week, there being a large attendance of members and visitors. Bro. Wilson, P.G., conducted the ceremony, P.G.'s Sister Siinmonds and Bro. Fairweatlier acting as conductors. The newlv-installed officers are as follows:—N.G., Bro. Wood; 1.P.N.G.. Bro. Scliofield; V.G.S., E. Taylor; E.S., Sister Stubbing; warden, Sister May. Bro. Taylor, P.G., addressed the new officers upon their various duties. During the social part of the evening some splendid items were given by the Balmoral Quartette and other artists. After supper the remainder of tho evening was spent in dancing.
The Fountain of Friendship Lodge held a quarterly summoned meeting last week, Bro. R. McMurtrie, N.G., presiding. Tho chief business of the evening was the declaration of the officers elected for the new term. Bro. T. Beere is to fill the position of noble grand, Bro. P. B. Rothery, vice grand; Bro. W. R. Battersby, elective secretary; Bro. Priestly, iuside guardian; and Bro. R. McMurtrie, grand master. The personnel of tho management committee remains the same. At the close of the business some enjoyable games of bowls were played.
The Light of Penrose Lodge, J.0.G.T., met last week, the C.T., Bro. Tarlton, presiding over a good attendance. The business was of a light nature and was speedily transacted. Bro. Jameson, V.T., gave an account of the district executive meeting and was thanked for his report. Tho S.J.W. reported that nearly 100 juveniles had attended that evening and that the temple's affairs were in a very healthy state. At the close of the business a programme was given by the married members.
There was a large attendance of members at the fortnightly meeting of the. Epsom Lodge, No. 88, 1.0.0. F., held in the Royal Oak Hall. Tho N.G., Bro. N. Whale, presided. One new member was initiated. PJeasing reports were received in regard to the chairmanship class and dance held the previous week. It was decided to place the names of the past noble grands upon the lodgo's merit board before the end of the present term. A combined meeting of the Mauugarei Robekah and Epsom lodges will be held next lodge night, when Bro. M. J. Hooper, P.G.M., will give an account of the recent Australian Grand Lodge session, at which he was one of tho delegates from Now Zealand. At tho close of the business tho members enjoyed several games of indoor bowls.
A function of great interest in Forestry was celebrated last week in tho Foresters' Theatre, Onehunga. Tho occasion was the farewell tendered to Bro. F. Bartlott, who has relinquished the position of secretary of the Court Pride of Onehunga, A.0.F., after 17 years' service. About, 300 brothers and vistors were present; among these being Chief Ranger Bro. W. Worrall (chairman), Mr. E, Mojrton, Mayor of Onehunga, and several members of tho Borough Council, Bro. Harkins. D.C.R., Bro. P. Jamieson, P.D.C.R., Bro. Seamen, D.5.8., Bro. A. <J. Rankin, D.J.8., Bro. R. Darlow, district secretary, and representatives from all the Auckland Courts and kindred societies. On behalf of tho district executive Bro. 11. Darlow, D.S., presented Bro. Bartlctt with a long-service medal, and on behalf of Court Pride of Onehunga, Bro." Pardington presented a set of pipes and a smoker's companion, and to Mrs. Bartlctt a handbag. A toast list was honoured and a number of items was given. The singing of "Auld Lang Syne" brought the evening to a close.
The Enterprise Lodge, No. 80. 1.0. G.T., met on Thursday evening, the vice-templar, Sister McFarlane, presiding over a very fair attendance of members. Owing to pressure of engagements the resignation was received of Sister M. Webb as financial secretary, Sister Mrs. Barnett being elected and installed in her place. Arrangements were finalised for tho anniversary gathering and church parado. When the business was concluded the S.J.W. conducted a "bring and buy" social, a very good sum being realised in aid of the "guide" funds.
The Star of Otahuhu Lodge, U.A.0.D., continues to prosper, good attendances being recorded at the meetings. At a recent meeting the district president, Bro. G. Stone, paid an official visit, being accompanied by P.S. Bro. T. Ashe, and Bros. C. and T. Stone, of Light of Manukau Lodge, and P.A. Bro. Marshall, of Star of Newmarket. Bro. B. Smith's (P.D.P.) resignation from the position of lodge trustee was received with regret, and Bro. W. E. Wells was elected in lii's place. Tho officers elected for the new term are:—J.P.A., Bro. F. Hatton; A.D., Bro. C. Hampton; V.A., Bro. H. Brown; 1.G., Bro. W. Salter; 0.G., Bro. J. Cox; A.D.B.'s, Bros. Spick and Braithwaite; V.A.B.'s, Bros. Robson, P.A., and J. Turner; delegate to hospital committee, Bro. W. E. Wells; minute secretary and reporter, Bro. Wells; chief steward, Bro. Simons.
Two cliurch parades of friendly society members were held on Sunday evening. One was at St. Matthew's Church, city, where about 60 members of tho Rebekah branch of the 1.0.0. F. assembled. Tho service was suited to the occasion, a very able sermon being given on the truths of the Order. Another parade was held in tho Congregational Church, Onehunga, whero members of the local societies gathered. Tho attendance was affected by tho weather, but those present heard a fine address by the Rev. Thornley.
The Loyal Remucra Lodge, M.U.T.0.0.F., held a very successful and interesting meeting to celebrate its 21st anniversary. Tho lodgo room was nicely decorated and was crowded with members. The district officers were present, also Bro. T. .Aitkin, P.G.M., and Bro. W. Dean, P.D.G.M. The N.G., Sister Hollingworth, welcomed tho visitors. The installation of the new officers was conducted by Bro. F. Hard, D.G.M., assisted by Bro. J. E. Allan, D.D.G.M., Bro. j. McLeod, district secretary, and Bro. J. Clark, district treasurer, tho conductors being P.G.'s Bros. Hollingsworth and J. Grey. The officers for this term aro:—N.G., Bro. Grafton; V.G., Sister M. Cameron; E.S., Sister Walters; .T.P.N.G., Sister Hollingsworth; lecture master, Bro. J. Codlin, P.G. The membership has increased from 31 to over 200 in the last 11 years, the lodgo now being ono of the largest in tho district. During tho evening Sister E. Bricknc)! was presented with a P.G.'s framed emblem by tho D.G.M.
