HEAVY FROSTS OCCUR
AUCKLAND AND WAIKATO SEVERE AT HAMILTON Heavy frosts occurred throughout the Auckland district on Saturday morning and again yesterday morning, being particularly noticeable on Saturday in low-lying districts, where tho ground was covered with white for some time after sunrise. The temperature on the grass early on Saturday morning, according to the records at the Albert Park Observatory, was 31 degrees. However, on June 8 the temperature on the grass was 29 degrees, or three degrees below freezing point. The weather was fine and sunny in Auckland during the week-end, but the southerly wind made conditions very cold in the shade. Temperatures were milder yesterday than they were on Saturday.
Hamilton experienced the heaviest frost of the year 011 Saturday morning when 14.4 degrees were recorded at Iluakura. Previous to this the highest recording for the year was 10.4 degrees 011 June 9. Saturday's frost was equal to the heaviest of last year, 14.4 degrees having been registered on August 8 and 9. To date this month there have been 12 frosts and on present indications it is likely that the total of 14 fiosts for June, will be exceeded. Successive heavy frosts have also been experienced at Cambridge, and on Saturday morning 12.(3 degrees of frost wore recorded in the town and 1G degrees at Pukeroro. There wore heavy frosts on both mornings at Pukekohe.
