Our Young Poets
The response to our "Little Evelyn" original poem competition has been most gratifying, jind many charming tributes have been paid to the dear little maiden whoso photograph is republished to-day, with the winning entries. ✓ Two of tho poems were of equal merit, one in the senior and one in tho junior division, so two kowhai (20mark) cards have been awarded, instead of one, the winners being: GWEN EVANS, 28 George Street, Dominion Road. (Aged 18.) WILLOW MACKY, 88 Mountain Road, Epsom. (Aged 11.)
Willow's poem is particularly good for one so young, and we predict that this new member will very soon find a place among the most successful of our junior competitors. Other good entries were received from Chrissie Huey, Ailsa Cartwright, Helen East. Hae Clarke, Lorna Finlayson, Joan Brookfield, Adeline Waller, Mary Spiers, Pearl Herbert, Joyce Bavlev, Joan Meader, Nellie Donovan, Elsa Flavell. All the poems are being sent to Evelyn's mother, Mrs. Bergman, oi Hawera, so that she may have the pleasure of reading them to Evelyn herself when that wee girl grows older.
