WORK AT ARAPUNI

the new sluice gate HEAVY CYLINDER INSTALLED [from our own correspondent! HAMILTON, Monday A major task in. the construction of the new sluice gate for the diversion tunnel at Arapuni was performed today, when the hydraulic cylinder at the top of the shaft was lifted into place. This cylinder weighs 10 tons and required the combined effort of two cranes to lift it into position on the top girder. This girder will support the portion of the structure that appears above ground. When the sluice gate and the lifting gear are completed in about three weeks or a month, tests will be made under working conditions to ensure that the structure will effectively withstand the great pressure from the water behind the dam.
