FRENCH SLOOP'S VISIT
VESSEL SAILING TO-DAY ILLNESS OF AN OFFICER After two weeks iu Auckland, th« French sloop Savorgnan de Brazza -prill sail this afternoon for New Caledonia. The sloop will move from Central Wharf to "Western Wharf at 7 a.m. to take in fuel, and her departure hai been fixed for 2 p.m. No ceremonial will mark the sailing of the vessel beyond the exchange of the usual courtesies with, the flagship of the New Zealand Naval Division, H.M.S. Dunedin. As the sloop passes the naval base a guard will be mounted on the flagship and the outgoing vessel, and calls by bugle will be made, tha procedure being the same as when ona of the New Zealand warships leaves port. The Savorgnan de Brazza was open to the public for four hours yesterday afternoon and a large number, of visitors inspected the ship. The sloop was not open on Saturday afternoon, vrhen Commander J. Rosati gave a private tea. Last evening Commander Rosati, through the French Consul, M. Edcuard Joubert, expressed appreciation of the courtesy and hospitality which had been extended to the officers and crew by the people of Auckland. He stated they had received at Auckland the finest reception they had experienced during the . cruise. One officer, Lieut, de vaisseau J. Lavole, who is second in command, became ill yesterday, and it is thought he may be suffering from appendicitis. If his condition is serious to-day he will be taken to the Auckland Hospital,
