STORAGE OF ONIONS PUKEKOHE SCHEME FAILS [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Friday The difficulty of raising capital at a time when produce growers were hard hit by the slump in potatoes proved insurmountable in the case of Co-opera-tive Cold Storage, Limited, which has gone into liquidation. The company proposed to erect a cool store at Pukckolie for onions and was to have been conducted on a co-opera-tive basis, 1 the growers to provide the capital. Almost without exception, growers of onions in the district are also large growers of potatoes and in the past season the price of potatoes fell to a level unprecedented in the ' lives of many growers. They remained for weeks at those levels and were hard to quit at any price. The prospectus provided for a capital of £6OOO, but it was not found possible to obtain subscription of the minimum 2000 shares necessary to proceed to allotment. A meeting of shareholders and applicants for shares is to be held on Wednesiiav to deal with matters arising from the liquidation.
