SETTLER SAWING A LOG [BY TEIjEGItAI'II——OWN CORII ESPONnENT] WHAKATANE, Saturday An inquest concerning the death of a settler of Manawahc, Joseph Henry Theobald, was held yesterday, Mr. G. A. Brabant, district coroner, presiding. It was stated that deceased was living alone in a camp in the bush and was last seen alive on Monday morning at 11 o'clock. His son visited the camp on Tuesday with provisions, but thinkin"; his father was spending the evening with some settlers, left the stores and returned home. He again visited the camp on Thursday evening, and finding the place undisturbed since his previous visit, informed a settler, who found deceased in a position which indicated a collapse after sawing nearly through a 3ft. log. The coroner returned a verdict that deceased died from natural causes.
