NEW AWARD SOUGHT

BUTCHERS IN WELLINGTON

CONCILIATION PROCEEDINGS

[BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION"! WELLINGTON, Friday

An application by the Master Butchers' Association for a new award to cover workers in the industry in the Wellington district came before a Conciliation Council to-day. On behalf of the workers' union it was contended the proceedings were not in order, and after a somewhat heated discussion certain legal points raised were referred to the Arbitration Court for decision.

The employers' advocate, Mr. Mountjoy, alleged "that representatives of the union yesterday went to some hotels and other business premises threatening a boycott unless an agreement was reached in the Conciliation Council today. The employers were prepared to enter into a new award on fair conditions.

The union's advocate, Mr. Croskery, denied any suggestion of a boycott.
