VESUVIUS IN ERUPTION /FACE OF CONE SPLITS / LAVA MENACES VALLEY / villages may be reached By /Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright / (.Received June 4, 6.35 p.m.) NAPLES, Juno 3 -As a climax to the abnormal activity of Vesuvius since February tho faco of the erupting cone, which had reached the highest level since 1926, split to-day accompanied by a slight earthquake. A stream of red-hot lava, 4ft. wide, poured out at a rate of 9ft. a minute. At present the lava is confined within the. large crater, but it is threatening to overflow and reach the Valley of Hell and the villages beneath. Three other craters aro emitting 6jnoke and gases'.
