WOMAN'S BAG SNATCHED
WAITING FOR A TRAMCAR MANUKAU ROAD INCIDENT A handbag was snatched from the hand of an elderly woman ,waiting to catch a tram at the corner of Manukau Road and Banff Avenue at about'7.3o last evening by a man who has so far escaped detection. The victim was Mrs. M. E. Duncan, aged about 60, of Pukekohe .West, who is on a visit to Auckland. She was standing on the footpath alone when a man suddenly snatched her bag and made off up Golf Eoad, which is almost directly opposite Banff Avenue, on the other side of Manukau Road. Fortunately, the purse contained only a small sum of money. Mrs. Duncan, who was considerably startled by her experience, was unable to describe the man, apart from the fact that ho was tall. The polico were informed, but at a late hour no trace of the thief had been found.
