AUCKLAND BEATS TAKAPUNA VICTORY FOR MOUNT ALBERT Two matches were played in the senior grade Kugby competition for Auckland secondary schools, which commenced on Saturday afternoon. Five schools arc again participating in the competition and for the opening series King's College had a bye. Auckland Grammar School scored an easy win against Takapuna Grammar by 25 points to 3, in a match on the Auckland ground. The heaviness of this did not provent the Auckland backs, who were eorved exceedingly well by their forwards, from playing a fast, open game and showing welldeveloped combination. On its own ground the Mount Albert Grammar School fifteen beat Sacred Heart College by 24 points to 8. It was an interesting gamo and Mount Albert did well to score five tries to two by Sacred Heart. AUCKLAND'S SUCCESS Auckland Grammar School opened its score against Takapuna ftbout two minutes after the start of the game. Pattison obtained the ball from a ecrum, and sent it out to Fraser. who dashed over for a try near the corner. Passmore's kick missed. A Takapuna forward got offside in front of the goal and his mistake enabled Fraser to increase Auckland's score. Logan placed Auckland in a good position with a welldirected line kick. A ecrum followed and th<» ball moved out to Heskelh, who darted through the defence and scored. Fraser converted. The score at half-time svaa:—Auckland, 11.: Takapuna, 0. several minutes. Emery goaled from a penalty 80 yards out. The ball travelled out to Logan in an Auckland passing rush and he crossed the line unchallenged. Fraser failed to convert. In another Auckland attack this player broke away with the ball and, on being tackled, he transferred to Burcher and Bourke, who scored. Fraser Dgain failed to convert. The Auckland forwards heeled from a ecrum and Pattison, Pedrotti and Hesketh all shared in a passing rush that was crowned with a try scored and converted by Fraser. From the kick-oS Auckland made an attack that ended in Fraser scoring. Fraser _ thus registered !6 of his side's points. Reid fniled to convert, and the game ended:—Auckland, 25; Takapuna, 3. Mr. J. R. Miller was referee.
SACRED HEART DEFEATED Sacred Heart carried play into the Mount Albert twenty-five and good passing among the backs tested the defence. Mount Albert cleared and the backs wero seen in a combined movement. Hook passed to Martin, who crossed for a try. Hook converted. Mount Albert sustained the pressure, and. obtaining the ball from a line-out, Walker dived across. Hook's kick failed. _ Sacred Heart was troublesome until half-time, the score then being:—Mount Albert, 8; Sacred Heart, 0. ... , Tho second spell had an exciting beginning. Sacred Heart pressed and f rol n a scrum the ball went to Hare and from him to O'Rcgan, who scored Hare converted. The ball was kicked off again and, Garruthers. having broken awnj, passed to Hook, this player transferring to Cooper, who scored the second try in three minutes. Hook could not convert, but ehortly afterwards he goaled from a penalty. Sacred Heart, fighting hard to reduce its deficit, oventually succeeded, a fine forward rush ending in Woodlock scoring a try that Hare failed to convert. Mount Albert's next_try was obtained through a splendid solo effort by Hook. He ran for about 60 jrards right through, the defence and converted tho try himself. The ball was heeled bjick to Walker and he passed to Hook, dribbled it to the line. In the melee that followed a try was scored by Walker and Hook agnin converted. The game ended:— Mount Albert, 24; Sacred Heart. 6. Mr. M. Adams was referee.
