FIXTURE IN WAIKATO AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS INCREASE IN GATE TAKINGS [I'ROJS OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT! HAMILTON, Sunday The 27th annual Waikato Winter Show concluded last evening, after proving one of the most successful the association has conducted.
Although the weather throughout the week was showery and cold, the attendances each day exceeded expectations. The gate takings for the five days totalled £1628, or £29 more than was received for the five days the show was open last year. All the unemployed of tho town were admitted froo to the exhibition yesterday. Enthusiastic scenes were witnessed when tho show closed. Addressing the largo gathering, tho president, Mr. J. Treloar, said the exhibition had been an unqualified success, both from the point of view of tho exhibitors and tho attendance. Ho said tho increase in the gate takings by £29 over last year demonstrated tho popularity of tho fixture. Mr. Treloar proposed votes of thanks to tho secretary, Mr. W. H. Paul, and all those who had contributed to make the show such a success. Mr. J. R. Fow, Mayor of Hamilton, referred to the influence of tho show in advancing and advertising the Waikato. Tho patrons had been very consistent in their attendance, and the exhibition had acted like a tonic to people who had been depressed by the difficult times. Tho show has been remarkable for the great variety of entertainments provided. Musical, elocutionary and dancing competitions were in progress throughout each day and evening. A novelty was provided yesterday, when members of the Auckland Model Aeroplane Club attended and gave a fine demonstration. Competitions wero also held. The results in these competitions wero as follows: Fuselage Model, rise off ground.—A. Sykes, 47 4-ss, 1; L. Martin, 37 4-ss, 2; Mrs. Clark, 36 2-ss, 3. Any type of model aero plane, hand launched: E. Boyce, 1m 37 4-ss, 1; L. Martin. Jm 37 l-ss, 2; M. Nelson, Ira lGs, 3. Any type model, rise off water: R. Clnrkson, lm„ 1; A. Sykes, 375, 2; J. Garrett, 27 4-ss, 3. Following wero the results in the classes for engineering models and model aeroplanes:—Stotionary section: 11. Aitken, Rotorua, complete mili unit, 1; E. Morgan, Hamilton, triple compound condensing unit, 2. General section: Best model made from scrap: G. W. Hope-Johnstone, • Hamilton, winding engine, 1. Best model made without lathe: \V. Pearcei, Auckland, self-contained steam unit, I;°J. G. Brown, oscillating engine, 2. Marine section, sailing boats: C. S. Christensen, Norwegian ship, 1; C. F. Thomas, sailing yacht, 2: J.
