GROUNDS IMPROVEMENT
AUCKLAND GRAMMAR SCHOOL RELIEF WORK PROPOSAL A decision to undertake the work of improving tho Auckland Grammar School grounds, with the employment of relief labour under the No. 5 scheme, lias been made by the Mount Eden Borough Council. The scheme lias not yet been completed, but will probably involve the levelling of the slope at the back of the school and an extension of the playing area. The Auckland Grammar School Board offered to pay the council £IOO a year toward the extra, costs, such as overseeing the labour. The council decided to accept the ofFer and prosecute the work, subject to the Grammar School Board finding the costs of the explosives required in blasting. It is anticipated the scheme will provide work for a number of men for a year or two, as rocky knolls will have to be removed and earth carried for the levelling process. The council hopes to commence the work immediately tho negotiations with tho board are completed.
