MIXED DOUBLES TITLE CRAWFORD AND PARTNER WIN PARIS, May 31 In the find of the combined doubles in the French lawn tennis championships Crawford (Australia) and Misa Scriren (BritainV defeated Perry and Mis:; Isuthall (Britain), the previous holders of the title, 6—2, 6—3. Tlie British pair were expected to retair the title comfortably, but found Crawford in one of his inspired moods, ably assisted by the 20-year-old lefthar der, Miss Scriven. She was only ranged twelfth in Britain in 1932, but has much improved siince then. Her victor;' with Crawford vras oven more onesided than the score suggests, as they led s—l in the first set and s—o5 —0 in the second. Crawford, brought off many impossible-looking shots, both volleys and half-volleys. Results in the men's singles are:—■ Third round: Perry beat Rimet, 6—3, 6—!?, 6—£•; Stefani beat Brugnon, 6—4, 6—3, 6 —2; Robbins beat Merlin, B—(s,8 —(5, 6—2, 10 —B.' Fourth round: 1 Boussus beat Shields (United States), 6—3, 6—2, 2 —o, 6 —-1 j Menzel beat Wildo, 6—3, 6—l, 6—4. Boussus' defeat of Shields was a surprise. It is expected to mean the latler's exclusion ilrom the United States Davis Cup team.
