OVERSEAS LEAGUE
morning reception held A gathering of members of the Overseas League met in the league rooms yesterday morning to welcome Miss Edith Thompson, C.8.E., of England. Mrs. J- T. F. Mitchell presided. In acknowledging the warm welcome she had received from various organisations in New Zealand, Miss Thompson said she had been immensely impressed by the efficiency dTown by women in this country both in public a.nd in Sate work. Although interested in women's sports in England, particularly hockev Miss Thompson said she had not known much about sport in New Zealand. She had been deeply gratified, therefore, to receive a radio welcome while at isea from the. New Zealand Women's Hockey Association. A tour of the War Memorial Museum she owed to Miss Vera Hay, president of the Auckland Federation of University Worn™. Miss Thompson also referred to her acquaintance with the Overseas League in Canada, where it had taken a prominent part in Promoting business and friendly relations between Scotland Miss Thompson on her travels is Miss Olive Hargreaves who spoke of the social-work done m Lon don, referring particularly to the Over seas Migration Department which, in better times, bad concerned itself with the redistribution' of the population of At the conclusion of the addresses both guests were presented with bouquets and morning tea was served.
