THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE FAIRLY ACTIVE MARKET Fairly substantial business was done on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, although only nominal inquiry was shown for some of the leading industrials. Support for State loans \yas unchanged with the exception of a slight advance in oilers for two of the 3i per cent- issues. The 4 per cent stocks were inclined to cheapen on sale. The 1910 issue was taken unchanged at £IOO 7s 6d. This price, unchanged, was also paid for the 1946 issue, which later had sale at £IOO ss. In sales at £IOO 5s the 1949 and 1955 issues registered a fall of 2s 6d. A marked appreciation on sale of English, Scottish and Australians was a feature of the banks group. Offers for these shares rose by 2s 6d to £4 17s fid and a parcel was taken at sellers' unchanged quotation of £5, a gain in three weeks of 14s (id. Recent firming in Commercials lod to a sale 3d higher at 14s 9d. Sellers of New South Wales appeared at £3O 10a and buyers advanced their limits by 5s to £3O. Now Zeaiands had sale Id higher at 45s Bd, after which holders firmed.

Levels in National Insurance wero a shade highor, but thero was a transaction unchanged at 16s fid. New Zeaiands were quoted 9d higher at 4Js od, buyers advancing to a limited extent only. .. Holders of industrials wero generally firmer, but buyers wero largely uninfluenced. Auckland Gjis, contributing, wero released at 17s, gaining Is since April 12. Huddart-Parkers sold 1(1 higher at 29s 9d and a parcel of Kemp-thorne-Prossers was taken unchanged at 65s 3d. Brisk trading was done in Wilsons Cements, which weakened by od to 30s 4d, dropping further to 30s 3d before having final salo at 30s 6(1. _ After a fairly quiet period Wainis became active. Early business was done Id higher at 21s lOd and there was a gradual firming in two sales to 21s lid. Closing quotations at 22s were 2d higher and buyers advanced their limits by Id to 21s lOd. Levels in Wailii Junctions and Mount Lyells also showed a firmer tendency. Okaritos had sale Id higher at lis 4d, with subsequent business at lis 3d. in the unofficial list Bcil Hooper gained id on salo at is.
