FIRE STATION SITE
SAFETY FROM EARTHQUAKE BUILDING FOR WELLINGTON [By telegraph —press association] WELLINGTON. Monday Tho opinion that from the point of view of earthquake the Clyde Quay school site is preferable to the City Council yard site is expressed in the leport of Mr. P. Holgate, consulting bridge and structural engineer, of Wellington, who, with Mr. 11. A. Campbcl?, of Christchurch, was asked to give expert advice in regard to the proposed new site for the central fire station.
Mr. Holgate states in an additional report, dated May 12, that two new bores put down by the City Council at the south-west end of tho corporation yard since ho made his report on March 21 show that the underlying rock has an almost vei'tical face, and suggests in his opinion an earthquake shear plane in the past.
