ILLNESS AND RELIEF
NEED FOR CERTIFICATES HARDSHIP ON APPLICANTS The position of relief workers who become ill and were absent from work was discussed by the Papakura Town Board last evening, when a deputation from the Papakura Relief Workers' Association complained of the hardship caused through men having to obtain it medical certificate. Mr. D. Weir said he considered there was merit in tho complaint. When men became ill they could :not afford to pay a doctor to declare them sick. The chairman, Mr. H. E McEntee. said he thought it would be a eootl thing if tho Unemployment Board appointed a medical man in each district to attend relief workers, and paid some form of retaining fee. Mr. Weir suggestod that the Hospital Boards might be able to do something in the matter.
REDUCED SCALE OF PAY RESTORATION OF "CUT' ; URGED [BY TELEGRAPH —THESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Monday Tho restoration of the 10 per cent 4'cut" in tho time of men employed on relief works is being urged by tho North Canterbury Hospital Board, which is circularising all local authorities asking their assistance in the matter.
