LIBRARY BUILDING

WHANGAREI PROPOSAL LOAN NOT APPROVED [FROM OUR OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Monday The Whangarei Borough Council decided last month to approach the Local Government Loans Board with tentative inquiries as to whether the board would approvo of a library loan not exceeding £SOOO. Recently the council purchased a section for the purpose of erecting a library, museum and art gallery, the present building accommodation being inadequate. The council has received a reply from the secretary to the board stating that the board is of opinion that the work should not bo proceeded with at tho present time, as, in view of the present economic conditions, it considers that only works which are urgently necessary should bo financed out of loan moneys.
