TAKAPUNA CLUB'S OPEN RAGE

FASTEST TIME TO C. JOHNSON

Only a northerly wind prevented icfcal road racing- conditions on Saturday, when the Takapuila Amateur Cycling Club held an open road race of 221 miles over six laps of its circuit of 3J miles, which circle?, the roads around. Lake Pupuke. Of the 58 who had entered for the event, 51 started. The scratch men were L. H. Dwight and 11.. 0. Browne, of the Manukau Club, and G. Patrick, of the Auckland Club. The limit men received a start of 10 minutes. From the commencement fast times were created and it was ®n tha initial lap that the -course record was broken by the Takapuna _ Club's scratch rider; B. G. Sharp, who in company with C. Johnson, F. J. Casey and J.' R. Hall, rode a lap in 9ra 8s to lower his old record by 23 seconds. The scratch men took 9s longer. At the halfway mark the leader was V. S. Ellis, one of the limit riders. He was 1m S5»ahead of the second rider, W. E. Dilworth, also off the limit. Two big bunches, one consisting of over 20 riders, were then rapidly _ overhauling the leader, who was riding a hard race alone. On the last lap the long markers were caught by the back men and for the Inst mile over 30 riders comprised the leading: bunch. When ths pace was livened up near the finish, however, several dropped back, leaving 14 riders to sprint for the placings. The two Hansen brothers led out in the sprint. C. Hansen proved the Btronger and won by hslf a wheel, with the others separated by wheels only. The race for fastest time was a great struggle throughoiit between C. Johnson and F. J. Casey, off lm 30s, and the scratch rider L. H. Dwight, who lost his fellow scratch riders after going two laps. Jotmsoh. won the honours from Dwight by 16s. Johnson, lm 30s, of the Lynndale Club, secured fastest time when he rocle the 22J miles in the fast time of 57m 20s, L. H. Dwight, scr, Manukau Club, gained second fastest time in 57m SGs. AUCKLAND AMATEUR CLUB An open 25 miles invitation handicap was held by the Auckland Amateur Cvclins Club at Te on Saturday. Among the 33 starters were G. P. Clark, K. N. Clark and L. Sunday A 16-miles cycle race was conducted by the Hamilton Amateur Athletic Club yesterday. The results were:—T. Robinson, 3m. 1; H. Hemvood, 6m, 2; J. W. Taylor, scr, 3. Taylor made fastest time in 47m 39a. WAHAROA CLUB'S EVENT [FROM. OUR OWN correspondent] WAHAROA. Saturday The Waharoa, Cycle Club held a race to Okoroire and back, a distance of 27 miles.
