THEFT OF AN AXE
FINE OF £2 IMPOSED ■ [FROM OITR OWN CORRKiSPONDKNT] TE AROEA. Saturday Tho theft of an axo was admitted by J. A. Vovsey in the To Aroha PoliceCourt to-day. Tho .axo v;ns tho property of Mr. Dixon, of Walton. Police evidence was given that accused's calling took him into tho country districts, where he collected sheepskins and second-hand material. On visiting complainant's farm accused found no one at home. He collected the sheepskins as usual arid left a note to that effect. Accused nlso took an axe tluit was in the yard. When the matter was reported to tho polieo Vovsey denied taking tho axo, which was later discovered beneath a pile of skins on his truck. For accused, Mr. T. A, Carroll said that at the time Voysey had not tho slightest intention of committing a crime, as complainant was one of liis greatest friends. He had merely borrowed the axo to do sortie tree-felling with. Had the complainant known .that it was Voysey who had taken the axe he would never have instituted proceedings. AccuspA was fined 40s and costs, in default 14 days' imprisonment.
