OSTRICH RUNS AMOK
MAN KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS Teddy, an Bft Somali ostrich, ran amok while being corralled at tho Wbipsnade Zoo, London, recently. He charged at top speed toward a line of men who were trying to drive him into warm quarters, knocked one man unconscious, and caused the others to run for their lives. Fifty men were stretched in a line across a 20-acre field to drive Teddy into a corner. As the lino advanced slowly toward him Teddy suddenly turned and made toward it at a speed of about 35 miles an hour. The men—all but one-—escaped their ungainly but swift pursuer by vaulting over a fence. Later Teddy's victim was picked up unconscious, but only slightly hurt, owing to his heavy clothing. Time after time the 49 survivors tried to " rush " Teddy; time after time he eluded them. Eventually they gave up in despair —and, only a few moments after they dispersed. Teddy walked slowly into the desired corral!
