WRESTLING CONTEST
WIN FOR PATERSON BLAKE UNABLE TO CONTINUE [by telegraph—OWN' correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday In a professional wrestling match at the Theatre Royal this evening, under the auspices of the Waikato Wrestling Association, Jake Paterson, 16st., defeated "Whiskers" Blake, 15st. 21b. Blake secured a fall in the third round and Paterson a fall in the fifth round, as a result of which Blake was unable to continue.
There was almost a packed house and the contest was full of interest. Blake was the more scientific wrestler, and ho frequently used his long legs with great dexterity to extricate himself from painful holds. During the first two rounds Blake often had Paterson in difficulties with body scissors, arm stretches and splits holds. On several occasions Paterson escaped from punishing holds by tugging Blake's beard and long hair. Blake secured his fall in the third round with a figure four body scissors and arm bar. In tho fifth round Blake showed signs of weakening and was unable to rise when Paterson secured a fall from a reverse headlock and slam. When the gong went to continue, Blake was still on the mat and Paterson was declared the winner.
Amateur bouts resulted as follows:—. M. Stott, 9st. 01b., beat C. Lee, 9st." 21b., by two falls to none; F. Haines, 9st., bent A. 13. Carlev, 9st. 41b., by two falls to none; H. Mueller, lOst. 41b., beat A. Tombs, 9st. 121b., on points; N. Munt, 12st. 101b., beat H. Webb, 12st. 41b., by two falls to none. Sir. C. Pollard, of Auckland, was referee.
