ADJOINING HGME SAVED TWO OUTBREAKS AT SAME TIME [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HAWERA, Wednesday Two fires occurred almost simultaneously in houses a few yards .apart in Wilson Road, Patea, on Monday night during the absence of the occupants. The glare from the first fire attracted neighbours, who also saw volumes of smoke pouring from the chimneys of the next house. Investigation should that bedding was tmouldoring.

Although the locality is outside the I'atea fire brigade's area, the alarm was given, and the firemen saved the second dwelling. The residences were occupied by Mr. and Mrs. J. Peachey and Mr. and Mrs. J. Goodon, who were in town at the time. Mr. Peachey's home was destroyed.
