TAKAPUNA ENGINEER
DISPENSING WITH SERVICES BOROUGH COUNCIL DECISION A decision to dispense •with the services of tho borough engineer and his assistant and to appoint a foreman of works in their place was made by the Takapuna Borough Council last evening at a special meeting held in committee. The question of readjustment in the engineering and the office departments was raised by tho Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniren, at the first meeting .of the new council a week ago. /it the request of the council, however, consideration was deferred until last evening.
The position of the engineer's department was fully discussed, and it was agreed that the expense of the borough engineer and an assistant wa3 no longer necessary. The two members of the engineering department, Mr. J. Bodle and Mr. N. Sanderson, are to be given two months' notice. Both will bo eligible to apply for the , newlycreated position of borough foreman of works, the salary to bo £5 a week at the commencement. Consideration of further economies in the town clerk's department was deferred, members of the council requiring further information concerning the duties of the staff.
