VALUELESS CHEQUE

YOUTH GRANTED PROBATION [from our own correspondent] PUKEIvOHE. Wednesday "If you come up again for any offence involving dishonesty you will not get probation again," said Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., in the Pukckohe Police Court- to-day to a youth, Edroond Kerebs, who admitted having falsely represented to M. ltavlick, of Pukekohe, that a cheque he issued for £2 was valid. Sergeant J. T. Cowan said that tho accused had tendered tho cheque at a store in payment for a small article and had received the greater amount of the cheque in change. He had been convicted over a year ago for theft and had reported regularly. His conduct had been good, and he was at present employed by a man who was willing to retain him if probation was again granted. Accused was admitted to probation for two years.
