SUEZ CANAL DUES
HIGHER' THAN PANAMA BRITAIN HANDICAPPED ADVANTAGE TO OTHERS RECEIPTS SHOW BIG DECLINE i . By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received May 16, 5.45 p.m.) LONDON. May 15 Sir Archibald Woigall, addressing the lloval Empire Society, of the Migration Committee of which he is chairman, urged that in view of Britain's overwhelming interest in the Suez Canal British representation on the board should not bo confined to retired private secretaries. He said tho Suez Canal dues were nearly 25 per cent greater than those of the Panama Canal, although the latter cost more and the running costs were double. American trade with the Far East and Japanese trade with Asia thus had an advantage. Britain , should assert her interest against the company's high-handed methods and excessive charges. A message from Paris says the bal-ance-sheet of tho Suez Canal Company reveals that receipts in 1932 were £1,700,000 less than in 1931. A gross dividend of £6 was declared. Tonnage declined 5.6 per cent in the year.
