ELLERSLIE TRAINING

SCHOOLING OF JUMPERS GOOD DISPLAY BY THESPIS HALF-MILE BY GOLD MONEY BY 'ARCHER A good display of jumping by the Great Northern Hurdles favourite, Thespis, was a feature of tho training operations at Ellerslie yesterday, when some very interesting work was performed by candidates for the To Kuiti and Auckland Winter Meetings. Ihe tracks had dried considerably under a drying breeze on Monday and the going was better than it has been just recently. Hurdles were erected on the outside of the course proper for the use of the jumpers and the No. 3 grass was used for galloping. With "Wee Tat (Garrett), Cntoma (Fergus) and (Craddock) as companions, Thespis (Burgess) went over four hurdles on the course proper in 1.22 3-5. As was to be expected ho was too good for his less experienced mates, but he went very nttractively and is not likely to lose any admirers as a result. The others went nicely for beginners, although they all slowed up at the third fence, where Thespis jumped right away. Another Great Northern Hurdles candii6, , ' nce Orange (Dulieu), was also schooled and was sent over six of- the usual schooling hurdles in the middle. Prince of Orange gave a clever display, and there is doubt that, he is a very finished jumper, frishna (Chaplin) jumped two pony hurdles and then two of the bigger ones, giving a good exhibition for a beginner. It was his first schooling lesson for over a fortnight and his effort was very promising. Trishna gets over the fences very cleanly and is n likely type to do well as a jumper. On the No. 3 grass Taneriri and Searcher, after running the first three in 40s, completed six furlongs in 1.18 4-5, a solid gallop. Taneriri is thriving well and should impro\is with every gallop, while Searcher has made a lot of progress since joining W. Ryan's stable. Injamint Sprints Well Grand Spirit (Murray) ran her first three in 38 1-5, and finished up six furlongs in 1.20. She infused plenty of dash into her work in the early stages but was slowing up at the end. Courthaven, who has not been overtaxed lately, ran five furlongs in 1.10 1-5. Manawhenua (Angel) was better than Tahae Men, over five furlongs in 1.7 2-5, and Valroe completed a. serviceable task with four furlongs in 57 2-ss. Manawhenua is looking a picture and should be in great heart when he has to race next month. "Wee Prince encompassed a round in 1.50 1-5, Teremai assisting over the last four furlongs in 555. Wee Prince is carrying an improved appearance and is evidently doing well again. Imamint (medium weight) was belter than Notamint (L. Dulieu) over five furlongs in I.G. The first two were run in 25 3-ss, and Imamint was under restraint at the finish. Her effort was very pleasing and she should perform well on Saturday. Hushing ran an easy half-mile in 56 3-ss, and Sir Val covered the same distance in 50 l-ss. Nothing very strenuous has been exacted from Sir Val lately, but he seems to thrive on a light preparation, and is one of the likely horses in the Maiden Handicap at Te Rapft on Saturday. H. Rama's Musketoon—Lady Greta filly hit out nicely while sprinting two furlong 3 with Love Story in 25 l;ss. She is a grand-daughter of Miss Winnie, to whom she bears some strong points of resemblance. Master Brierly (Murray) and King March (Moore) were both travelling well when they had completed the last four furlongs Of their work in ' 535. Master Brierly is thriving splendidly and King March is also doing well, although he will require some galloping yet to bring him back to form. A Good Hall-mile Hawthorn (Clark), after running the first three in 40 l-ss. was easing up. at the end of six furlongs in 1.22. It is doubtful whether Hawthorn has ever looked better than at present, and he should race well next time he is produced. Gold Money (Parsons) just shaded Gay Marigold (Moore), with Supreme Ruler (L Dulieu) being kicked out to keep with them, at the end„of four furlongs in 51 l-ss, the best of the morning. Gold Money is coming on nicely and is sprinting well again. Gay Marigold did her work solidly, and Supreme Ruler's effort was good for a novice, as 3io had the worst oi>;"th© • •■weights. Calienle (Parßons) and Chief .Toy (Murray) were not hurried to run half a mile in 54 l-sa, and Morehu was timed to run the same distance in 54 2-5. United (Jenkins) finished just ahead of Tarporley (Murray) and Chief Cook (L. Dulieu) at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. It was a nice piece of work and they all went solidly. Paiutahi (E. Manson) strode over a round in 1.48 4-5, the last half-mile taking 58 2-ss. Gay Broney defeated Mahkill over ™ ve furlongs in 1.4 2-5. This was a good effort, and Gay Broney should be heard from in his coming engagements. Billy Boy (Burgess) finished too strongly for Absent (Fergus) at the end of a round and three furlongs, and beat him comiortablv in 2.36 1-5. The last round was run in 1.51, and Billy Boy did his work pleasingly. He is in great heart at present. King Comet (Murray) went smoothly over four furlongs in 53 3-ss. This novice has not been asked to show his best just lately, but he has been doing everything required of him in good style.
