BOOTS FOR UNEMPLOYED
Sir, —In your recent issues I notice that the Unemployment Board has at last awakened to the fact that we can be assisted without accepting charity. No plan will help us to tho same extent as one by which we can obtain goods direct from the manufacturer at minimum prices, as assured by the recent tenders. Our low wages enable us to buy only the cheapest footwear, etc., and for men who must_ work under the hardest conditions, in all weather, the best is not- too good. Some retailers express the fear that some of them will suffer through direct trading. They may, but that should be counterbalanced by the increase of employment in the factories concerned. Even if it is not, direct trading is absolutely necessary. A Countey Relief Wobkeb.
