WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

North Albertland. ■ — The roll-call, "How to Treat a Painful Corn," brought forth many useful hints. Mi's. Wharfe gave an interesting demonstration on curing sheepskins and making quilts from wool. Ngaruawahia. Mrs. Tanfield, of Glen Massey, gave a very instructive demonstration on passe partout work. The roll-call was "A Child's Funny Saying." A large bundle of magazines was sent to tli9 mental hospital. Omaha-Pakiriri had an interesting talk on Tokomaru Bay and surrounding districts by Mr. Stewart, of Warkworth. A word-building competition was held. Ohinewai elected two new members. A very interesting demonstration on basket-making from pine-needles was given by Miss Phyllis Caulton. A flower competition was held. Parua Bay decided to hold an entertainment in aid of the St. John Ambulance. Mrs. Holke gave a lecturette on "First Aid to the Injured" and a demonstration of bandaging is to bo given at the next meeting. A competition, "Something Made From Tins," brought in some novel entries, and the roll-call, "Emergency Dishes," met with enthusiastic response. Paparoa held a remarkably successful birthday celebration with an attendance of about 250, representatives attending from Whakapirau, Marohemo, Matakohe, Mareretu ana Ararua women's institutes. An enjoyable programme of instrumental, vocal and elocutionary items, followed by a dance, comprised tho evening's entertainment. Roto-o-Rangi is a new institute with Mrs. Shale as president and Mrs. H. Martin secretary. Remits for the council were discussed, and a delegate appointed. Tapu.—Mrs. Hinds, voluntary organiser, formed this new institute. Mrs. A. G. Parry was elected president and Mrs. E. P. Ponder lion, secretary and treasurer. A competition in wordbuilding was held. Titirangi, in spite of wintry weather, had a good attendance at tho second birthday party. For the first time tho institute song, composed by Mrs. Faram, was sung to the music composed by Mrs. A. Macandrew. Members gave the short play "Oh, Mr. Smytho!" Pianoforte items, songs and the competition, "A Musical Wedding," arranged by a member, were enjoyed. After supper dancing was held.

Whitakahu had limericks for a rollcall. Mrs. Sainsbury, of the Gordonton institute, gave a very interesting demonstration on skin curing. Tho competition was for tho best four chrysanthemums.
