DELAY TO LINER

CARGO WORK REFUSED MAUNGANUI AT WELLINGTON SEQUEL TO RECENT DISPUTE OTHER VESSELS AFFECTED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.! WELLINGTON. Monday Although the shipping dispute is over no cargo work could he done on the Maunganui which arrived to-day and the departure of the Tamaliine was delayed for over two hours. When the Maunganui arrived early this morning there was a big crowd of seamen on the wharf to greet her, but there was also a strong force of police and the seamen gradually drifted away. When the Union Company called for waterside labour to work the Maunganui's cargo there was no response. It is understood the men refused to work her not only while her volunteer crew was on board, but until the union crew had been signed on to-morrow morning. Mails and passengers' luggage were landed, but no cargo was handled today. The volunteer crew left the vessel during the day and the crew's quarters wero fumigated. The Maunganui is now timed to leave at 6 p.m. to-morrow for San Francisco.

The Seamen's Union met this afternoon and tho meeting which was largely attended proved a long one, the men not returning to their ships until nearly 5 o'clock. It is understood the meeting was called principally to enable the crews of the Kaimiro, Kini, Canopus and other ships which had been in out ports during the hold-up to become acquainted with happenings during tho trouble and the terms of settlement.

As the Tamahine's crew attended the meeting the ship, which should have left here at 2.45 for Picton, did not sail until 5 p.m. The departure of a number of cargo vessels was also delayed until the crews returned.
