MUNICIPAL FRANCHISE

Sir, —Will you please tell me whether a person owning five properties is entitled to five votes in a municipal election? Also, is a liquidator entitled to one voto for each property which ho liquidates during the year? Cukious.

A person may exercise only one vote in his own right, no matter how many properties he may own or occupy. However, ho may exercise an additional vote as the accredited representative of a company, firm, partnership, joint tenancy or association of persons, whether incorporate or not, that is entered in the valuation list as the occupier of a property or properties. One person may vote on behalf of any number of such concerns, but only onco for each. The names of various persons appear on the Auckland City roll as voting representatives of companies in liquidation, which seem therefore to have the same status as other companies.
