THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE ELECTROLYTIC ZINC IMPROVE Attention was directed largely to industrial issues and mining on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday and the bulk of the business was done in those markets. No sales were completed in State loans, which had unchanged buying support. Sellers made a reduction in quotations for 1940 4 per cent stock but supplies of ether issues were not available. Conditions in the bank and insurance groups were dull, with inquiry a shade easier. Sole business was in Bank of New Zealands Id lower at 45s lid. Offers for Commercials dropped by id to .lis 5d and for the preference issue by 6d to £8 12s, holders following the market down to practically the same extent. Unions, which again were not quoted, were sought Is higher at £7 lis. National Insurance were quoted ex div. at 17s, an unchanged rate, but buyers reduced their limits by 5d to 16s 3d. There wero no buyers for New Zealand Insurance, and South British were sought at 64s 6d, a decline of 6d. Industrials were marked by a sharp rise in Electrolytic Zinc, pref., following the improvement in the metals market. First trading since March 20 was 3s 2d higher at 31s 3d, at which price, representing a rise of Is in offers, further supplies wero not obtainable. Holders of Auckland Gas conceded a small amount and there was a sale 2d lower at 23s 3d. Business in New Zealand Breweries 3d lower at 29s 3d- was accompanied by an easing in levels. Bycroft, Limited, firm, selling twice unchanged at 37s 6d. Kempthorne Prosser and New Zealand Newspapers were unchanged on sale at 65s and 25s 6d respectively. Northern Roller Mills wero released at 295, the first transaction since listing. Levels in Wilsons Cements moved forward but there w<is earlv business unchanged at 31s. New Zealand Eefrigerating, £1 paid, changed ban els Id higher at 12s. In mining, Waihis advanced on tho bidding and a sale was comploted i 6d higher at 22s 6d. Offers for Junctions increased by Id to 4s, at which price two sales were recorded, unchanged. Okaritos gained Is 2d on sale at 10s 6d, Gillospies Beach and Mataki selling ,at unchanged rates.
