EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD ARRIVAL OF DOMESTICS The following are extracts from the New Zealand Herald of May 15, 1883: — There are about ISO single women expected to arrive by the s.s. Westnieath, many of them domestic servants. Those acquainted with the state of the labour market, in respect of female domestic servants, state this supply will Speedily be absorbed, as there is an unsatisfied demand for well-trained domestics. To-day His Excellency the Governor will start on a tour among the islands and harbours in the Hauraki Gulf. He will leave by the Hinenioa at ten o'clock this forenoon and expects to be absent for a couple of days. This afternoon the party will make the Great Barrier, probably Port Fitzroy. The tradesmen of Dublin have received a mysterious circular warning them against having any dealings with the jurymen in the Phoenix Park murder trials. This is the first intimation of an attempt, which it is no doubt intended to make, to boycott the jurors for having done their duty honestly and fearlessly. Preliminary steps are being taken by an Auckland capitalist to put another handsome block of buildings in Queeu Street, and thus further embellish this leading commercial thoroughfare of the city.
