RECEPTION TO NOVELIST Miss Nolle Scanlan was entertained by th o Auckland Catholic Women's League yesterday afternoon. Tlie guest was received by Mrs. M. Pilling, president, and Mrs. D. O'Leary, vice-presi-dent of the league, and a cordial welcome to Miss Scanlan was extended by Dr. Liston, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, who congratulated her on her success achieved in the literary world. A graphic description of her presence at a Papal Mass in St. Peter's Cathedral, Home, with all its ceremony and pageantry of costume, and also of an audience with the Pope, was given by Miss Scanlan, when returning thanks for the reception tendered to her. Songs by Madamo Cyril Towscy, pianoforte solos by Miss Winifred Cook and recitations by Miss Ysolinde McVeagh were greatly enjoyed, and afternoon tea was served by the ladies' committee.
