OVERSEAS ATHLETES

PROPOSITION BY AUCKLAND COUNCIL NOT FAVOURABLE The council of the New Zealand Athletic Association discussed at its meeting this week a letter froiw the Auckland Centre asking that full consideration should be given to the idea of a tour of Australian athletes next season, even if it should be in addition to a tour of American, or other athletes. So far as Auckland was concerned, the centre was positive that it could make both tours pay. The chairman, Mr. 11. W. McVillv, expressed his definito opposition to any proposal to conduct tours while the present financial conditions prevailed. The question was, who was going to foot the bill ? The secretary, Mr. L. A. Tracy, stated that a tour by four men from America would cost between J:1400 and £I6OO. Mr. H. I. Austad said that biennial championship meetings should be arranged between Australia and New Zealand. The matter then lapsed.
