CONCERN OVER GANDHI
THREATENED FAST GENERAL SMUTS' APPEAL (Received May 3, 6.5 p.m.)' CALCUTTA. May 2 The Government is concerned over Gandhi and his threat to fast. There is a possibility of his early release as it is not likely that forcible feeding will be undertaken, though it is among the gaol regulations designed to prevent death by starvation. A message from Capetown states that General Smuts, Deputy-Prime Minister of South Africa, has cabled to Gandhi urging him to delay his fast and saying: " Endangering your life might lead to a dreadful calamity."
