LABOUR CONFERENCE

DATE OF ANNUAL HOLIDAY CHANGE TO FEBRUARY URGED A decision that it would be advantageous to observe Labour Day on the fourth Monday in February each year, instead of in October as at present, was reached at the annual conference of the New Zealand Labour Party, which was continued at the Trades Hall yesterday. It was pointed out that the weather in February was more likely to be fine than was the case in October.

A request for the change to be made will be forwarded to the Government. A motion advocating the institution of the ward system of local Government was defeated.

The policy committee's report was under consideration when the conference rose yesterday. The conference will conclude to-day.
