COLD STORAGE CHARGES MOVE FOR REDUCTION LONDON, April 12 The Australian Minister in London, Mr. S. M. Bruce, and the High Commissioner for New Zealand, Sir Thomas Wilford, accompanied by their respective meat experts, Mr. 0. Heywood, and Mr. R. S. Forsyth, interviewed Sir David Owen, general manager of the Port of London Authority, to-day. They asked the authority to reduce cold storage charges on meat. They pointed out the high ratio of the charges to present prices. Sir David gave no indication of the authority's attitude. THE CITY MARKETS GOOD DEMAND FOR FRUIT VALUES LITTLE ALTERED There was a good demand for fruit at the City Markets on Thursday. Apples were plentiful and low values continued to rule. Keen competition existed for dessert pears, which sold readily at late rates. The quality was good. Lemons, which were in som'ewhat short supply, also sold freely at prices which were, little changed. For oranges and passion fruit fair prices were paid, but the demand was not great. Bananas sold well, £\tra choice repacked fruit realising as much as 27s a case. Few Hutt tomatoes were available and sold freely at late rates. The vegetable market was heavily stocked with potatoes, kumaras, beans and onions. There were also good supplies of cabbages, green peas and other vegetables in season. The demand was fair and values little altered. Most lines of poultry were plentiful, but the demand was poor. The prices paid were generally in accord with recent sales.
