INTEREST IN DOUBLE

THE EASTER AND BRIGHTON WIDE RANGE OF FANCIES 'Nowadays it is the rule for visiting trainers tD reach the scene of action later than in past years and to date few gallops of an illuminating nature have been performed for the Easter Handicap. However, the arrival of fivo more candidates yesterday makes the number of those on hand eleven and some interesting gallops are anticipated this morning. Eager Rose, L'Allegro, Rila's Light and Prolyxo. who are trained in the Waikato, aie now (he only Easter Handicap horses expected. Royal Artist at Takanini and Flying Prince at Pukekohe are located handily enough for tho journey to be made on lace day. With the arrival of a large batch of hoises .yesterday, interest has quickened noticeably in the Easter Handicap and Brighton Hurdles double. Enthusiasts are not unanimous in their ideas of the possibilities for either race, but a number of horses have already been singled out for attention in both races. In tho Easter Handicap the local candidates Sunny Sky, Manawhenua and Chief Cook all pleased their admirers on Tuesday and of tho three Sunny Sky appears to be in most favour. Aiguille, an early choice, h;is gone out of favour since his mishap cn the trip north because of a doubt whether lie will bo tuned right up on Saturday. Golden Wings* a great sprinter, Paganelli, Gold Trail, IVAllegro and Lordly Knight are visitors whoso proa pects are viewed very hopefully. At the moment there appears to be a disposition to favour the chances of Sunny Sky, Golden Wings, Lordly Knight and .L'Allegro, Prince of Orange and Billy Boy are tho only Ellexslie-trained horses in the Brighton Hurdles and they have done their jumping and galloping in really excellent style. On Christmas form Prince of Orange appears the better prospect of the two, but Billy Boy is such a reliable jumper that he will not be overlooked. Lucess and Free Air aro the first arrivals among (he Brighton candidates and both are fancied, tho former being a fine jumper, but not a true stayer, while there is a doubt whether Free Air will negotiate tho Ellerslie hurdles with proficiency. Cruachan, High Pitch, Paddon, Emancipation, Imperial Prince and Kawini are all winners and of these Cruachan and Emancipation are fairly recent winners. Some of these may be schooled at Ellerslie before Saturday and if so a better line on their prospects may bo obtained. For this present the ruling fancies appear to be Emancipation, Prince of Orange, Cruachan and Imperial Prince.
