BOHEMIAN ORCHESTRA
DECISION TO CONTINUE MORE SUBSCRIBERS NEEDED After a careful review of the position of the Bohemian Orchestra Society, the committee has decided to continue activities, providing greater public support is accorded. At the annual meeting a few weeks ago it was stated that owing to a fall in financial membership it was very doubtful whether the society would be justified in continuing this year. The committee was given power to circularise all past members and in other ways to attempt to gauge tho amount of support likely to bo forthcoming. "On the whole the prospects seem satisfactory," said Mr. J. Palairct last evening. "Wo consider it would bo a retrograde step from the point of view of music in Auckland if the orchestra were allowed to become defunct. Although the year will be a hard one, we expect to be able to pifll through if we secure more subscribers." Suggestions had been made that the orchestra should bo placed on a civic basis and that tho name should be changed to "The Auckland Symphony Orchestra" or "The Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra." The executive, however, decided that the change would not be justified. Mr. Colin Muston will again bo conductor.
