FOLK SCHOOLS

A talk upon the folk schools of Denmark was given to members of the Penwomen's League by Mr. E. J. Bror Mueller. The president, Mrs. Carr Rollett, presided. With the object of broadening tho outlook of his people both culturally and spiritually, and also with the aim of developing the spirit of co-operation among them, the first of these residential schools was started in Denmark by Bishop Grundtvig about 75 years ago, said the speaker. The extent to which the movement has succeeded in the intervening years was evidenced by the fact that there were now about GO schools and the movement had also spread to several other countries. Tho work that was carried out in them was outlined and their influence in developing the resources of tho country through the co-operative spirit which they fostered was also emphasised. The newly-formed Glee Club, under the direction of Miss Amy Hansard, gave items which were greatly enjoyed.
