LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS
MARKING BALLOT PAPERS The desirability of a system of marking the names of chosen candidates with a cross, -when voting at local body elections, instead of the present method of striking out the names of rejected candidates, was discussed by members of the Auckland ElectricPower Board at a meeting yesterday. The City Council has decided in favour of marking names with a cross at the municipal elections in May. When a communication from the City Council was received, the chairman, Mr. W. J- Holdsworth, suggested that the question should be deferred until the board had an opportunity of seeing how the system resulted at the municipal elections. After Mr. E. H. Potter had remarked that county authorities in the * board's area should be consulted and the secretary, Mr. N. M. Speer, had stated that the City Council desired tc obtain uniformity at the forthcoming 1 City Council, Hospital Board and Harbour Board elections, the chairman'! " suggestion was adopted. The next power board election will b« held in 1934. 5 THE OITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE ANNOUNCED In response to representations made by a deputation last evening, Mr. M . J. Coyle, of Point Chevalier, will seel re-election to the City Council at th< forthcoming municipal elections. Mr 5 F. Rose, who headed the deputation referred to the splendid service ren dered by Mr. Coyle on the council dur iiig the past eight years. NORTHCOTE MAYORALTY MR. MARTIN A CANDIDATE As a result of numerous requests from residents of the district Mr. R, Martin, Mayor /of Northcote, has decided to seek re-election at the forthcoming municipal elections.
