AVONDALE WOMEN'S CLUB

In the absence of Miss Newton, who is in Wellington attending the conference of the National Council of Women, Mrs. Oxenham presided at a meeting of the Avondale Women's Club. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mrs. Bissett, a member who recently lost her sister. Mrs. Darrow gave a graphic account of a visit to Japan, describing the scenery and mode of travel from town to town. Photographs of various types of beautiful shrines were shown. The manners and customs of the Japanese, as observed from a woman's point of view, were also most interesting. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames March and Earland, assisted by members of the committee. The stall, in the charge of Mesdames Wood and Kealey, was welt stocked with needlework, produce, etc., and brisk business resulted.
