EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD FORMING CITY STREETS The following are • extracts from the New Zealand Herald of March 30, 1883: At the City Council meeting, it was decided that Symonds Street, Karangahape Road to Ponsonby Road, and Ponsonby Road to the Three -Lamps should be formed to the full width and metalled 30 feet wide, and the balance with scoria. The surveying and plotting out of the Surrey Hills estate is being rapidly pushed on. The original plan is being altered and improved in various details. The width of some of the principal streets will be itt* creased, the additional ground being secured by reducing the width of the secondary streets. Tenders for 1211 shares in the Gas Company were received by the directors yesterday. The directors accepted tenders f° r 760 shares at prices ranging from £8 l° s to £9 2s 6d per £5 share. All the natives for 10 miles around are going to Parihaka to welcome Te Wbiti and Tohu. It is staled that 400 or 500 from kaiatigas on the Waimate Plains are expected within the next few days. Iney will not be permitted to remain long. The first batch of six men found guilty of conspiracy in the Phoenix Park murders have been sentenced to terms of penal servitude, varying from five to ten years. The second batch of six prisoners found guilty were sentenced to ten years penal servitude.
