SPORT WITH SWORDFISH
MAYOR ISLAND GROUNDS I [bt telegraph—OWN correspondent] TATJRANGA, "Wednesday A visit to the Mayor Island deep-sea . fishing grounds was made by Mr. E. A. Temple Perkins, a district commissioner of the Uganda Protectorate, Central Africa, who is on furlough in New Zealand. He made the trip in the launch Naomi, and during his three days' stay at the island he was delighted with the sport. The visitor captured four swordfish and thrills were provided by many others. On Monday Mr. Temple Perkins hooked a swordfish which gave a magnificent display of leaping in the 45 minutes before it was captured. On Tuesday the fisherman secured three swordfish within two hours. The three fish weighed 4111b., 3361b. and 3101b. . An extraordinary sight was witnessed on Tuesday afternoon. For a distance of 200 or 300 yards between the launch and Mayor Island the sea was literally alive with swordfish, and in the opinion of Mr. Temple Perkins the big fish were probably schooling in preparation for migration to warmer waters.
