GETTING BACK TO NORMAL RAPID RESTORATION -WORK RUNNING OF LIMITED TRAINS If the present rate nf progress is maintained in the consolidation of the Main Trunk railway near Taumarunui, following the damage by last week's storm, the ordinary schedule for limited expresses should operat.3 in a few days. Tho limited train from Wellington', which usually reaches Auckland at 9.40 a.m., did not arrive until nearly 12.40 p.m. yesterday, the reason for the delay being tho caution which has still to bo exercised in negotiating the weakened stretch of line. While the carriages can proceed over the affected parts of the line, It ;s still necessary to avoid operating heavy engines 011 weak portions. The system of propelling carriages over certain parts of the line, to connect with ari engine on tho other side, is still applying, according to a statement by a railway official yesterday. It was stated that trains should be back to normal running th:s week. The restoration work accomplished on the Main Trunk had gone ahead rapidly, and tho results of the activities were regarded as extremely satisfactory.
