HIGH WIRELESS FEES

REDUCTION ADVOCATED ELECTING MEMBERS OF BOARD A reduction in the annual licence fee from £1 10s to no more than £1 was urged at a meeting of listeners' representatives on Thursday evening. Mr. R. H. Bartley, president of the combined B stations club, presided. It was also advocated that the Broadcasting Act, 1931, should be amended to provide for tho election of members of tho Broadcasting Board instead of the present method of appointment by the Governor-General in Council, and that unrestricted advertising facilities should bo granted to B stations as the only means of enabling listeners to obtain a satisfactory alternative service. It was stated that the present listeners' fees in tho Dominion were the highest in tho world.
