PENROSE BUS SERVICES
RESTRICTIONS OPPOSED Resentment at alleged attempts by the Railways Board to interfere with the bus services in the Penrose district was expressed at a public meeting held in the Methodist Hall, Penrose, on Thursday evening, Mr. A. Neil, secretary of the Merrvland Ratepayers' Association, who presided over an attendance of about 100, said the meeting had been convened to discuss reported statements that the Railways Board was endeavouring to have restrictions imposed on the licences of the bus service for the Penrose district. If these restrictions were imposed the buses would not be permitted to pick up or set down passengers within hall' a mile of the railway stations. In the chairman's opinion the conditions would retard the development of the district which, in its scattered nature, was dependent upon buses for the convenience of city workers.
A resolution was unanimously adopted strongly protesting against any attempt by the Railways Board, or any other authority, to interfere with the present bus transport facilities; and pledging those present at the meeting to support any effort made to retain the preseHt service.
